Derek Castillo of Casa Grande won the February contest and selected the Basic Rider Course. Here is his winning entry.
I want to learn how to ride motorcycles safely. I am very aware of accidents that happen, in the states and in Arizona. Arizona is a beautiful scenery and I want to be able to use the knowledge and awareness of your course, to enjoy riding a motorcycle In this beautiful place. I want to be able to learn all there is to know about motorcycles and the awareness & safety you instill on your Students. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the course training, and I’m very interested to join.

Now that you have completed this course has it fulfilled your original intent for entering the contest?
“Yes it has.”
If you could only pick one aspect, what is the most important safety takeaway that you have learned?
“The most important has to be the 12 second time to evaluate the road ahead and make safe decisions.”
What is your opinion of AMSAF and their mission to help reduce motorcycle accidents?
“I think it’s great to teach everyone about safe riding.”
What is your opinion of the TEAM Arizona class?
“I had a great time. I learned very throughly about safety. The rider coaches were great people.”
How can you help AMSAF spread awareness of motorcycle safety and training?
“Continue to grow through internet and social media.”
Will you take additional motorcycle safety/skills courses?
“I plan on taking another one soon.”

“Yes it was, I am confident in the skills I learned.”

Would you have taken a rider course even if you didn’t win?
“Yes, I was already planning on taking the course.”
Do you currently own a motorcycle?
“No I do not but might in the future.”
If you don’t currently own a motorcycle do you plan on buying one?
“Maybe in a few months.”
How likely are you to take additional riding courses?
“About 90% positive.”
